The Animal Rescue Site $100,000 Shelter+ Challenge
Thousands of Petfinder.com Shelters Eligible for Grant Awards

Seattle, WA—The Animal Rescue Site will give away $100,000 in grants to Petfinder.com participating shelter and rescue groups during the next four months. Visitors to The Animal Rescue Site can vote for their favorite animal welfare organization in the United States or Canada every day from Sept. 29 through Dec. 14. Weekly prizes of $1,000 will be distributed during the Challenge. Final prizes range from $1,000 to the grand prize, a $25,000 grant.

Visitors will not be asked to contribute anything but their time, first to “Click to Give” at The Animal Rescue Site and then to vote for their favorite Petfinder rescue organization.

Weekly awards of $1,000 will be given to the rescue organization with the most votes accumulated during each week. On December 15, The Animal Rescue Site will announce the winners of the final prizes. One $1,000 grant will be awarded to the organization with the highest number of votes in each state, as well as Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico (52 prizes), and two $1,000 winners will be awarded to organizations in Canada. The runner-up for total number of votes during the Challenge will receive a $10,000 grant, and the grand prize winner will receive a $25,000 grant.

“Anyone can cast a vote and, unlike some elections, you can come back to vote again the next day!” said Tim Kunin, CEO of GreaterGood Network, (the parent company of The Animal Rescue Site). “We love the idea that our site visitors will decide where the money goes. By voting every day and by getting their friends to vote, everyone has the opportunity to make a huge difference for their local shelter or rescue organization. We believe that this money can be very helpful for a lot of shelters in a tough economy, and think the community of animal lovers who visit www.theanimalrescuesite.com daily are the best people to make the choice of who gets these funds."

Vote tallies will be updated regularly and visitors to The Animal Rescue Site (www.theanimalrescuesite.com) can check on their favorite shelter’s tallies throughout the $100,000 Shelter Challenge.

On Sunday, November 23, a fire broke out at the Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) in Terryville, Connecticut. Fortunately, most of the animals have been adopted (all 16 cats and all but two dogs), but unfortunately, the fire rendered the building uninhabitable and it will have to be razed, along with the caretaker's home. See the story at
www.animalrescuefoundationinc.org.

ARF has some fantastic workers and volunteers and the thought of no shelter is unthinkable. Please vote for them; they need all the help they can get! Thanks so much!

Petfinder.com is the site that verifies the shelters as part of this challenge. If your shelter is not listed with them, they need to contact Petfinder.com in order to be included; however, as the mods have already explained, it is too late for this particular contest. If your shelter adds their name to Petfinders.com, they will be included in future contests. I hope this helps!

I'm going to switch my vote to "A Helping Paw" if they are on the list. They are the shelter that was just robbed and could very well close if they cannot come up with the needed funds.

Perhaps others within this forum would send a vote their way as well. Every little bit helps!

I like that this site only asks for a few moments of my time to vote for the rescue of my choice. It's a joy to do rather than a chore like some other places with their complex contest rules. I don't know if I'm the only one voting for my rescue of choice but I'll keep trying even though I don't see them in the top 10 overall or the top 3 in my state. They are deserving so I vote for 4Paws Rescue Team in Merrifield, Virginia.

:-D I think this Shelter + Challenge is a great thing to do! We don't have humane societies in Tehama County where I live. I was voting for our local PAWS chapter but was probably the only one who was, so I decided to quit wasting my daily vote.

I found out about Best Friends in Utah by watching Dog Town by, the National Geographic Channel. They do so much, for so many animals. They have parrots, rabbits, horses, all kinds of animals that they help there, and they don't kill them, unless of course one of them needs to be put down.

They have dogs that have been there for years whom have not found homes. These animals are allowed to stay at Best Friends until they find a home or pass away. If they happen to pass away, there's even a cemetery for the animals. It's big and beautiful with grave stones, flowers, and a garden among other things.

Best Friends is operated by donations only and that's why they get my vote everyday. I hope that they win the grand prize. For all they do they deserve it.

Make memories because no on can take them away~

I love your motto; however, the word should be "one" - just an observation.

I also vote every day and am wondering if the same shelters will end up winning week after week. It doesn't seem fair if that is the case. Sorry...just posted before I saw the answer.

Hi gg7scot. Sorry no one has replied to you sooner!

Participants are eligible for only one weekly prize during the Challenge. So yes, a different shelter wins every week. Weekly winners aren't excluded from winning the grand prize.

Hope that answers your question!

I vote every day with reminders in my email box. At first I voted for the rescue site we got our Golden Retriever puppy from but they were not even voting themselves so I changed to the second rescue shelter in my area. I hope most folks are voting for their area shelters and not just the big ones, always a chance to move up if we do that.

I have many times purchased something from this site too as they have the neatest things here at the Animal Rescue Site. I purchased the purple rubber braclets and include them in every purchase from our shop, MyShop4Pets.com for others to be aware and I have the pawprint on my blog to help make awareness for this site and others in the headlines.
